Hi all.  I have just bought my first polo 6n2 gti.  It had  no radio, so I bought a vw gamma radio which was original vw issue.

Got it coded and working , only problem is the sound volume keeps dying down on it.  It does the same if running on the cassette and 6cd changer.

So I got another replacement, this one did exactly the same , and a third that I borrowed, the same fault.  If you twist the volume it will work loud for a few seconds

then die down again. So frustrating.  Anyone have any ideas whats going on.

I had a Passat in the 90s with a VW radio that got louder the faster you drove. It was a feature. Maybe there's a loom signal missing...?

Thanks for the advise, but driving the car at speed does not make any difference. does the same if stationary or driving.

Volume drops after a few seconds, same fault  with three different stereos. Must be a stereo wiring loom fault.

 

yeah, but if the stereo has GALA and the set-up (reached from pressing TP button) has GALA as low sensitivity (maybe default value when unpowered just like forgetting the programmed stations) and there's 

no speed signal the stereo will fade (always after a delay so volume increase/decrease is smooth).

 

If you can turn the GALA sensitivity in Setup to max (10)? will it stay loud?

I have tried everything including the gala on max.  I will give it another go tomorrow. I had a car radio boffin have a look at it today, he tested all the speakers, power etc .

He thinks all three radios are faulty, is this a common problem with vw gala radios ? Or am I just unlucky.  Thanks again , will get back to you.  Colin.

My mate the car radio man had another look today.  He has found the fault. The rear passenger speaker wiring was faulty.

He isolated the speaker wire and bingo everything works fine, apart from the isolated speaker. Which will be replaced in the future.

So now I have two Vw Gamma radios in perfect working order for sale, both with there codes.  Open to offers . Pm me or 07761566966.
