Rang up my insurance company a couple days ago to declare all the mods on the 6n. The conversation included:

 

Me: I've got alloy wheels

Churchill: Alloy wheels?
Me: Yeah

Churchill: Are they steel wheels?

Me: No... they're alloys.

 

Told em about all the rest - rear lights, electric windows, etc etc.

 

Me: I'd also like to check if getting coilovers would affect my premium

Churchill: Coilovers?

Me: Yeah

Churchill: ...what are coilovers?

 

*How did you even get this job oh my god*

 

So today I get a letter with my new insurance certificate, which includes:

 

 

So they've put different steels instead of alloys anyway, and electric mirrors instead of electric windows.

 

I give up

 

 

Amazing. Premium should come down with electric folding mirrors (coilover-alloy-turbo-fluffy-dice-blowoff-valve-window sticker ), those mirrors are less likely to be knocked off by a passing van which will not stop.

I should also mention that - once I finished explaining what coilovers were - the woman I spoke to said they wouldn't be able to cover me if I got them

 

I rang them up again today to talk about this new certificate and spoke to a different guy who actually knew something about cars. Had an interesting conversation about how he couldn't get cover if he remapped his own car - and he works for them!

 

So we sorted out the rest of the stuff and I asked about just getting lowered springs rather than coilovers. He then told me that pretty much any suspension mod would be fine, and that the only mod they automatically decline is camber changes. Neither of us have any idea why the original person I spoke to said I couldn't get coilovers

Did you enquire how much your spinners would cost if attached?

I've had a few interesting conversations with my insurance companies too which I'm sure I detailed in another thread. Car insurance is just getting a bit silly now though. I have much better things to do with my time than sit for 30 minutes on hold only to speak to someone who doesn't have a clue about cars then have to waste the next hour explaining why I have modified my car etc. etc.
