Hey guys.

 

Was doing some work and discovered that the bolt that tightens around the TCA ball joint is completely buggered.

 

I wanted to check partsbase but it seems to be completely gone, and I can't register with vagcat.

 

Could anyone tell me the size please? The nut seems OK but would prefer to replace both :-)

 

Also, I could do with some new front ARB mount bolts, anyone knowwhat size they are??

The M10 bolt for the ball joint must have a non-threaded section of an inch or 20mm. Don't use one with the thread up to the head of the bolt.

 

In the event of the ball joint slipping, it will pull through thread, but it will not pull past a non-threaded section (at least not before giving you adequate warning first, with a bang when cornering).

 

It has happened to me, many years ago in the red one, the ARB was pushing the ball joint down in a corner and it just went - spun me off the road. Joint just squashed the thread out the way, where a blank section would've held it.

Thanks for that Mikey. I didn't realise that a blank section would make that much difference!

 

Will look for a grade 10.9 M10 bolt with an inch of no thread at the head :)
