6N auto, wont start on key

Featured Replies

Turned the car off. Went to start it almost straight away and nothing. All the lights on the dash come on, Nothing on the key, no clicks, no lights dimming when starter position is engaged, nothing.

Got the AA out who got it going by shorting from the battery to a red wire in a 2 pin connector just below and to the right of the exhaust manifold. Next to the big multi wire connector.

The AA man said that its either the ignition switch or starter motor inhibitor switch which he said was on top of the gearbox.

I can find no mention of or hint to location of starter inhibitor switch in the Haynes manual.

Please could someone tell me where this inhibitor switch is ? how easy, or not it is to get at ? best place to get one from ?

I havnt checked the ignition barrel yet, but I dont believe it is this.

Found out that the starter inhibitor is a relay and its with the rest of the relays, just above the fuses and has number 53 on it.

Had a spare Auto 6N, like you do, so wogged the relay out of it and its sorted. Glad it wasnt the barrel. That would of been an expensive pain in the arse.
