so yesterday i had a car crash,

 

The road was wet, i was going 30 mph and crashed in to the back of another car. The air bags where not deployed in the crash,

i started to brake at around the RED lines, the brake peddle went straight to the floor then came back up and both of the front wheels locked up and skidded in to the back of the other car.

 

You can see my tire marks in the pink lines, and where the impact was in the yellow lines. 

 

there was a considerable amount of damage to my car as you can see and wasn't much damage to the other car.

 

please can you help and suggest ideas of what might of happend and what caused the car to crash.

Glad you are okay and accident was not so hard it needs airbag.

 

I guess the ABS brake modulation to front brakes managed one pulse cycle, then jammed on. Going right to floor is usually due to loss of brake fluid from corroded or burst pipe or brake cylinder seal but only affects one diagonal circuit, while ABS is often front and rear let and rear right. Why it jammed on could be sensor failure or hydraulic control unit failure or just your memory during accident being unreliable.

 

ABS just helps you steer while hard braking. If you took pressure off the pedal and had slowed from 30 to about 15mph, the next brake activation would be none ABS assisted and you'd skid due to good old inertia. Locked rubber on tarmac has less friction than brake pads on discs.

 

DVLA theory test says 14meters to stop from 30mph in good conditions. If the road marking lines are 2 meters long and the gap is 1 meter I reckon you covered 11 meters.

Think wet conditions is the factor in this
