Guess I should say hello!

 

My name is Lewis and I'm 18 from westerham which is near Sevenoaks in kent. I recently purchased a MK2 Polo from a friend at a garage.

The previous (and only, We'll find out when the V5 returns) owner was an elderly lady who sadly had a stroke and couldn't drive anymore. I think it was taken to the garage and it had sat since around last summer. I bought it a few days ago and after driving to put some petrol in it found out the battery was no longer a battery and just a lump of acid. So had to get my mate from the garage to jump me. I drove it home faultlessly. And gave it a proper clean and wax. It came out really well and I'll get some photos tonight. My plans are the usual, Coilovers, exhaust and lights. I've decided to go for a straight pipe with a 4-2-1 manifold. Only coilovers I can find a TX Technics. Bit annoying but they will have to do. Ultralight splits would be nice or maybe some BBS as that's what I always planned on having.

I have some questions, Front brakes, Swap for modern polo brakes? or G40? Obviously not planning to add ABS. It will be a daily driver for a few years.

Engine - I planned on getting hold of a 1.3 block and a mate a garage will forge parts for me and I'm sorting the head and pistons to bring the compressions down to a safe level to run a turbo.

Interior will be part time. I'm planning to replace the front seats with buckets and strip the rear out. But I'm not throwing anything away, I will wrap it all up and keep it dry in the shed. So I can always revert back.

Anyway that's me and I will be asking loads of questions as I move onto bigger things

First of all to save any confusion since your car is a 1993 we refer to it as a mk3 Polo and VW will refer to it as a mk2f as it is a facelift version of the mk2.

Coilovers - There is more choice than just the TA Technixs versions but none are cheap. And most also require your old front struts in exchange. GAZ and KW both make coilovers but the cost will probably be more than what you paid for the car.

Brakes - Swapping to G40 (mk2 Golf is also the same) brakes is plenty. But along with that decent pads, braided flexi lines and decent fluid play a big part. 

Engine - People have successfully turbocharged a standard 1.3 AAV engine with a KO3 turbo and G40 management. There is a guide in the Engine FAQ section. I suggest you read through it.

Please remember that all these mods effect insurance and being young you may find the cost of insurance is more than getting all the work done, if they will insure you at all.

Sorry I've been working for a few days! 

So my car would be a mk3 not a mk2? That's confusing as I've had people refer to it as a mk2 but I've also heard 86c mentioned a few times?

I'm also trying to get an exhaust made up and have decided to straight pipe it, I don't suppose anyone knows someone who'd make one up?

My insurance isn't too bad, I can do various mods and they aren't to fussy.

by the way the car does need a good clean and polish which is being done tomorrow when I get paid haha
