Afternoon!

 

I recently replaced the front springs and shocks on my breadvan. Everything is back together, and as far as I could tell, job was a gooden.

 

Trouble is, I've noticed an interesting quirk of the front suspension now. 

 

If the steering is anything other than straight, and I put a load of torque to the wheels (usually gunning it in 1st/2nd), the front end 'kangaroos', for want of a better description.

The steering also goes extremely stiff under hard acceleration, as I turn the wheel it feels as if there is metal rubbing on metal.

 

It sometimes 'kangaroos' in a straight line too, but I really have to be going for it.

 

I've poked around to see if it is the ARB, but that is secure, and I can't see anything wrong with it, so I'm a tad confused.

I put everything back as I took it apart (with new bolts etc etc), but it didn't do this before. Any ideas?

doesnt sound right at all.....jack it up and have a proper poke round while someone turns the steering etc

 

might also be an idea to have the tracking checked once your sure its all okay

Yeah, I thought as much, thanks steveo.

 

It's rather annoying as obviously it is hard for me to pinpoint any issues as I can't see while I'm driving :(

 

The tracking is definitely out, you reckon it could cause it?

the rubbing on metal bit needs looking at ..

 

tracking can make it feel too light then too stiff , and poor grip

 

id raise it up on stands and have someone work the steering , have a good look whats going on , if its rubbing somewhere there will be a wittness mark on the paint , then go round with spanners and recheck everything is tight , also check the springs are seated right

 

be prepared that most tracking centers will be confused by a polo , the fact it has one ajustable arm and that one side appears to be bent , the should adjust it then remove the steering wheel and put it straight

one more thing....stuff like the inner arm bolt and top mounts should be nipped up with the car on the ground idealy .....can always ower it onto some wooden blocks so you can reach under
