Mate of mine has a 08 9N2 Polo, with just one key (I know, I've already told him off). Anyway, the lock barrel has collapsed this morning with the key in the drivers door. Unfortunately, the door is locked, so I can't do what I would usually do which is whip the torx screw out to release the barrel, cut the key out the barrel and tell him to run around without any lock for a week while we get a replacement  Job done 20 quid or so at most.

 

I drive a Lupo S, and that has a double deadlock feature on it's Central Locking, which prevents the old coat hanger trick (opening from the inside when locked). However there seems to be some mixed information online, apparently this isn't a feature on Polo's, but then it seems VW's in America don't have it but Europeans do? My question is, can we use the old coat hanger trick, or are 9N2's double deadlocked when locked therefore a no go? Are there any other ways we can get into the car? I've suggested trying to cut around the barrel itself but I think it's going to take a very steady hand, so a locksmith on that part. If we can do the coat hanger trick, I'll get breakdown to get the door open, then we can hopefully get the key out the barrel, then I'll probably just get him a delocking kit and then help him wire in a remote central locking kit (as what I do with all my motors  )

 

Anyway, any help would be really good. Any tips that help 'break in' perhaps pm because obviously don't want to expose anything to secretive.

Were able to get the barrel to turn with some penetrating oil. Not springy anymore though so needs replacing.
