Evening all,

 

Having just passed the 200 mile mark in the Mk2f I've owned for the last 4 weeks I have been trying to contemplate what look I've been trying to give her. She's only done 61k. I bought her a month ago on one of those FB pages advertising cars in your local area. Saw her as she was listed for £300. I took a punt and had her put through an MOT. Came back with nothing outrageous for a 25 year old car. Cost £365 total and came back to me with a fair bit of work being done to her. Happy.

 

She had clearly been given the late 90's boy racer look as someone had smashed on some white 14" Speedline alloys, cut back the springs and sprayed her a baby blue (7/10 effort). I wasn't expecting a mint car for £300 and on the first day of driving her the exhaust bracket gave way. A night in the garage and she was back.

The first thing I noticed was the wheels rubbing against the arches. Wasn't bad but with more than one in the car it rubbed on every slight dip in the road. I decided I'd get smaller wheels and see how it rides  as I wasn't a fan of the Speedlines anyway. I wanted to get some standard 13" steels to tie me over for a few weeks. A lad on here sorted me out and done a superb job of getting them to me. I can sprayed them a matte black and tried them on. I had the unusual experience of being able to feel my spine whilst in the Mk2f for the first time. I had a debadged grille fitted as I wanted a clean look to the car. I am currently in the process of trying to swap the Speedlines for some BBS/ATS or Alley Cats for that retro look.

 

 

 

I want the car to now sound a bit 'less standard'. I'm no mechanic so I won't be doing any mechanical work. Are Cherry Bomb back boxes any good? I don't want a £££ exhaust system, I'm just looking to get a simple addition to give it a bit of a rumble. Are they decent? I don't want anything too loud.

 

The bumpers are also standard, she wants to have a bit of a more aggressive look so I will be looking for a set of new bumpers? Any ideas? I don't have loads to spend but don't know where to start.

 

Any recommendations, feel free to shout them out as I am open to suggestions and tips. I can't tell my arse from my elbow when it comes to mechanics. Thanks all. Make me fall in love with my Polo guys!

My TA springs came today. I'll need to take these to a garage to be fitted won't I? Can't wait to put them on. Went 60/40 and will hopefully put the Speedlines back on if they don't rub!

I wouldn't do a cherry bomb, think they look and sound a bit crap personally, you can get a Decat downpipe although I can't remember the part number from the top of my head.

That would give you a little more power and a better note.

You could also get a GT or g40 system which is a slightly larger diameter.

Other than those options you should be able to get a custom powerflow exactly how you want it for £250ish. That includes choosing the backbox and how you want the tailpipe. I.e. straight or up/side swept.

As for bumpers there isn't really an aftermarket bumper readily available which doesn't look chavvy and a bit 90s. Could always colour code or half colour code your bumpers or add a subtle pinstripe but that's down to personal taste :)

Yeah, I only was interested because they were the easiest/cheapest option I found on eBay. I hate tinny sounds but I might try look for a decat downpipe.

 

The bumpers are going to be hard to sort. I might just see what I can find on here.

 

I desperately want some alloys though, the steels are too small and make the car look too low on the back.
