I've never been one for modding cars. But now I've hit 23 got some no claims under my belt, it doesn't cost much to declare on the insurance so looking at a few mods now. I've been looking at installing a cone in box, only for noise and cosmetic value.

I've seen videos on YouTube of this install on various cars, and on a lot of these videos after the install there is a large amount of turbo chatter. I know that this isn't good for the turbo and should be avoided, so my question is. If i install this on the polo 9n3 gti, can the stock diverted valve cope or will it cause turbo chatter?

If it's noise that you want then I would go for a cold air induction kit which would give it that woooshhhhh sound. I'm lead to believe that it shouldn't be getting a chatter sound which is a sign of a faulty dv valve which is causing the air hitting the blades of compressor side of the turbo, causing it to stall which isn't good for the turbo. (But someone should be able to confirm that for you).

Or you can always go with the cheap eBay special, but these really do nothing apart from look nice and gives a nice sound..

I'm most likely going for the K&N kit with a few changes myself, preventing heat soak. I did suspect it would be the diafram inside the DV if I did get chatter. Would give me an excuse if it is faulty to update to a forge. I'll order the kit up and see what happens.

Shouldn't cause any chatter at all, a ptssss sound yes but not a chatter. do you have any lights on the dash? 

 

Also if you want to improve it ready for a map, get yourself a larger turbo intake pipe, creation motorsport sell them for around £80, cone isn't essential but will remove any potential restriction. Factory DV are also fine for stage 2 if that's how far you intend on taking it.

Haven't actually purchased anything as of yet, just doing a bit of background knowledge. Will defiantly take a look at the inlet pipe!
