Hi there,

 

I've just been to look at a Mk5 Polo (I think it's Mk5, it's an 04 plate) and I noticed under the bonnet there was some paper jammed in the gap above the VW logo. I forgot to ask the seller about it, but I can only assume it's to block some kind of switch or something. I've labelled the gap that was blocked in this image:

Could someone tell me what that gap is for?

 

Also, when I switched the ignition on, the yellow ECS light, the yellow engine light and the red oil can symbol showed up. They stayed there (not flashing) until I started the engine and started driving. They didn't come back on whilst the engine was running - is this normal?

An 04 plate is a 9N1 or a MK6 on here :) 

 

That gap looks like the access to the bonnet contact switch

 

The lights come on as part of the pre-start and as long as they go out & stay out after engine is running, no problem :)

Thanks Nige :) So nothing to worry about with the bonnet contact switch?

 

I had another look today and noticed the engine oil light (red) comes on and flashes (along with a beeping sound) when the ignition is on but the engine isn't running. Seems to go away once I test drive. I'm guessing that isn't normal?

 

Any idea what it could be?
