Yo! 

 

The story of my Mk2F 1.0L so far!

 

I got the car back in december time from a mate who had used it every day until the head gasket went. he left the car in a pub car park and told me if i take it i can have it! 

 

Later that night a mate of mine towed me home, the car did not run and had a flat battery so had no brakes or lights, i must of hit the back of his van about 6 times in the 3 miles we towed it haha!

 

i got the car home and in the garage where i took a good look over it to see what it needed and what i planned on doing with it. 

 

i knew it needed a head gasket and some body work but other than that the car looked pretty good! 3 previous owners and only 69k on the clocks.

 

i replaced the head gasket that same week and gave the battery a charge. the car fired up no worries! 

 

chucked 4 new tyres on it and made a start on the body work.  

 

At this point i was planning on selling the car as i was looking for another E36. 

 

I did end up buying another E36 a few days after Christmas and then the polo was pushed to the back of the garage whilst the bmw got my full attention.

 

Its only recently i have pulled the polo back out into the light as im waiting on split rim bits for the BMW and im getting a bit cheesed off so i pushed the beema to the back and carried on with the polo again.

 

This time with the intention of keeping and using the Polo, the reason i changed my mind? A picture of David Knotts old Polo GT coupe i saw on google, fell in love with it straight away a very cool looking car! 

 

so i thought why not keep it, after all it doesn't owe me a great deal, 4 tyres, a head gasket and hours in the garage.  

 

its only when i got the polo back out last week that i had done more of the body work than i had remembered so after a little bit more sanding and cleaning it was almost ready for primer.

 

I put the primer and paint to one side until the weather was right and started stripping the interior out for a good clean and too see what the floor was like under the carpet. found no rust at all and a full unopened packet of rolo's! 

 

After deciding to keep the car i done what everyone does when they get a new car, started browsing ebay! Bought myself some Mk1 golf coilovers which ill modify to make fit the polo and a de-badged grill.. For now.

 

A mate of mine offered me some 13" banded steels for 30 quid, i snapped them up before anyone else had the chance! 

 

Another friend of mine is lucky enough to have a G40 engine in his garage, so i gave him a message but unfortunately hes not willing to sell that! but he did sell me a 1.3Gt engine. the only downfall being it doesnt have a loom of ECU, hence the messages and emails asking for these bits.

 

This morning i pulled the 1.0L engine out and gave the engine bay a good clean to get rid of those rusty water stains from months ago! 

 

Currently the car has no interior no engine and needs painting, and i plan on having it finished or at least very close to finished for Devon Dubfest on the 22nd of this month. its going to be tight for sure!

Nice repair on the rear quarter, engine bay looks like it cam up well too. 

 

Seems odd for someone to have a complete GT engine without the loom or ECU to run it but I'm sure there is a reason behind it. Good luck with the hunt for those, very rare you see just the loom up for sale but you might get lucky.

Thanks man! yeah i was surprised at how well it came up! the guy has 2 gt engines, one of which is still in his car and the other that he pulled out of a running car for a backup but scrapped the car with the loom as he had a running gt so didnt need the extra loom.

Had a productive day today! bit of running around this morning to get the correct paint for the polo. Whilst i was passing the scrap yard i thought id pop in as i heard of a mk2F in there and i needed the indicator from one. i ended up leaving with a full interior, glove box, petrol cap and the indicator all for a magical 50 quid! 

 

Only reason i bought the interior was because anything had to be better than the horrific blue and grey pin striped seats with plastic door cards!

 

And then made a start on the paint prep sand wash sand wash sand wash mask primer long old process but all worth it! 

 

Oh i also sealed a deal for a full GT arch and sill kit from a local guy for 60 quid.
