So I recently purchased my first Polo Coupe (long overdue, I have been dreaming about one of these for a good few years). I found him not too far away from where I was living, on an eBay auction, with a starting bid of £400 with a week to run. After a short, hurried test drive in a thunderstorm and a brief checkover in a multi-storey car park I followed my heart over my head and made an offer of £500 to buy and collect that evening. It was agreed, and I had a new best friend.

as you can see there was a lot of work to do as I quickly decided that this was going to be a show project. I wanted him ready for the show and shine at Bug Jam 24/07/16. 5 weeks after purchase. I know he won't win yet, but I want him to give some of the others a run for their money! I will update the road to Bug Jam here: 

So first things first, I should explain...

 

Marco was sent to a Body Shop/Garage up the road from me. The guy doing the work is called Jim, good bloke and into his VWs, he has a cracking MK1 Golf Cab in resto under cover there, and he was happy to show me around and do pretty much anything I have asked of him. So with a deadline of 17 days, he has begun work, and stripped the body of all plastics. 

 

We found plenty of rot, rust and holes that need welding up, a whole new front valance needs fabricating! But I've started this now, so it needs to be done. I've asked for as little filler as possible, and any rust is to be cut out, and a new steel panel welded in... it's made things a little dearer but he will be worth it in the end!
