Getting further into my new project - there's a couple of vac connections missing and loose around the engine bay, especially the base of the air filter.

 

Is there a diagram kicking about for where they should be routed and connected? I know our Omega gained about 30bhp when the vac pipes were sorted - but I don't expect quite that much this time round!

Not sure if this will help as i have a different engine code. Hope it gets you at least on your way. 

That's the sort of thing I need - unfortunately it is very different on ours! Thanks anyway though! :)

Sorry it isn't more help. Could try build thread galleries. See if you can spot the vacuum tubes in the pics. I did pick up a haynes and a russek manual on ebay but didn't find either much help. Although at the time i had no idea what i was looking for. Other than that you could check out mechanics locally, swing by and see if they can just give you guidance. I took mine to the same mechanic for a couple of years. Over the course of one year mine ran quite rough. Wasn't until i took it to a different mechanic that they took the time to monkey around with the vacuum hoses. Sorted it right out. Again, sorry i can't be more help than that. Good luck.

Just to revisit this, Ive finally got a few hours to try to sort it properly. However, every guide Ive found so far mentions the vacuum advance on the distributor, which ours doesnt have?

Just realised I missed this one - found it, thank you - again ours doesnt have the vacuum advance unit on the dizzy?

vac hose to distributor does not go any where else on mine. IE, if you dont need a distributor advance - just ignore that hose and blank off end.

 

But most of my post is about the pierburg hoses and if you dont have a dist vac hose then you shouldn't have a carb?

After a bit of parts searching, about a gallon of tea (as is right and proper) - finally sorted this out.

 

Wrong dizzy was fitted, now fitted the correct (ish) one, with vac advance. A roll of fancy silicon vac pipe to connect it all up, and... still ran like a bag of spanners and wouldn't run at all below about 4000rpm (with lots of throttle).

 

Another gallon of tea, returned to Billy Basics... suffice to say that the car runs an awful lot better when you connect plug leads 2 and 3 to the correct plugs (2 and 3, funnily enough). D'oh!

 

Now the tweaking of dizzy and carb can begin, to get it exactly spot on, but it's already seeming better!
