We have a 1990 Polo Coupe.  It's in pretty good nick and has about 70,000 miles on it.  It's used almost daily.

Over the last few weeks we've noticed what looks like a very small fuel leak approximately under the offside rear wheel arch.  There are no puddles of petrol, just gradual staining of the ground where the car is parked.  But worse, when driving it, there is a really strong smell of petrol inside the car.  I removed the rear seat to check the top of the tank and hoses, but there are no obvious signs of leaks from there.  So I'm guessing the strong smell is due to petrol fumes being drawn inside the car from the small leak outside.  From what I have read in other posts, I'm also guessing the leak is in the petrol tank filler hose, so it looks like the tank will need to be replaced.

My problem is I don't think I have space to do this kind of work (replacing the petrol tank), so I'm looking for a recommendation of a good mechanic/garage/enthusiast who can check out the problem, help source the parts and carry out the work.  Obviously, willing to pay for any work done.  Must be in Solihull/South Birmingham or surrounding area.  All responses much appreciated.

Get a fuel tank from GSF, they do regular 40% off at weekends

That's useful to know thanks chopperoli.  I also see they are available on Ebay from Germany.  Just need to find somebody to fit it for me!
