Hello I've got a mk4 polo and the rear wiper isn't working at all apart from the washer jet any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Suggest that you first of all check for electrical supply to the motor and all of the connections.

If there is a supply there and the connections are clean and tight, then the fault is likely to be within the motor itself.

These things are not supposed to be a serviceable item, but if you work with care, you can open it up. if all that it needs is the commutator,brushes cleaning, this is easy enough to do.

If the commutator and/or brushes are worn out, then a new motor is required.

It does sometimes happen that water gets into the shaft bearing and causes it to seize, preventing movement of the shaft. You could possibly polish up the shaft with some fine emery cloth (if you can't get emery cloth, you could use 'wet&dry' paper, but this tends to tare) - apply a little light oil (3 in1 ) to the emery/wet&dry, but make sure that all emery deposits are removed before re-assembly of the motor.

Use a very small amount of engine oil on the bearings prior to assembly, but keep the commutator/brushes free from oil (clean it off with methylated spirit or petrol if occidentally contaminated.)
