I've had a string of (self inflicted) bad luck recently with cars.

I currently own

2x 1.4 MG ZR's (the wife's standard daily and my project pushing 135bhp but mid rebuild)

1x Clio 172 (more love/hate than marmite and as reliable as a chocolate teapot and just shat a piston)

I've had to resort to borrowing an EP3 Type R short term (6 months so far) as neither of my cars are drive able, when my brother in law announced he was scrapping his 6n2.

No real reason for it, just couldn't be bothered to sell it and the mot had expired.

I pretty much ripped his arm off for it thinking I could use it short term and give the Civic back to it's owner.

As she looked when I picked her up wearing 16" Innovate ST 6's and 40mm Spax springs.

Got it home and started checking it over for the MOT.

Rear brakes where shot, really shot.

Like i think they were the originals.

After much headache due to rotten bolts, I got the new discs and pads on.

Brakes are still shot. Turns out the servo hose is cracked and the valve cap is missing.

Deep joy!

So now, it appears I have 3 cars off the road (for the next few days atleast) and i'm still using a borrowed Type R!

Good news!

After some buggering around with the brakes, inc a new homemade servo pipe, discs and pads, a new master cylinder and a full system bleed...... I have an mot!

Small update, no mod photos to add so it's a little boring.

 

Externally, the car looks almost identical to the day I got it, with the only addition being front fog lights.
Underneath we've had a few improvements.

 

She now has Corrado G60 280mm front brakes, polybushed wishbones, a lower brace, solid alloy top mounts, BMC carbon enclosed induction kit, 7mm Silicone HT leads, polybushed rear shock mounts and a rear upper strut brace.
I also sourced a set of GTI door cards and fitted rear speakers, shortened the gearstick and fitted an OMP 300mm steering wheel.
 

I got hold of a set of FK black angel eyes, but they're in dire need of a refurb so that'll happen when I get time.

Next up is to sort a rear ARB and then start looking at replacing the whole exhaust system.

She's slowly getting where I want her.
The new exhaust is getting fitted tonight as the oem system was so rotten that after I clipped it on a curb it split in 2 places!
It's a Sportex cat back with 3" tail pipe.

At the same time, I also have a set of TA Technix dampers to fit that are supposedly 30mm shorter pistons and 30% stiffer than oem.
That should help loads as currently it's bottoming out with the CNC top mounts fitted and the 40mm springs on.

 

 

nice base to start with. there will always be teething problems when buying second hand car so keep at it. also mercato blue is the best colour 6n2 out there, good choice

She's actually been good as gold for the price, the only maintenance work I've had to do was a complete lack of brakes when I first bought it, but all in including, purchase, repairs and mot it cost me £300.
Anything else has been self inflicted.

anyway, photos of last nights progress.

 

It had bottomed out on the OEM shocks so bad, the bump stop was stuck to the top mount.
Got it all stripped down and transferred everything across to the new shocks, all refitted.

It actually felt firmer than it did before even still on the axle stands.

 

Didn't get the exhaust fitted as there were no clamps with it, so called it a night until Monday.
I'll get that dealt with at home once it's been in for 2 new front tyres and a 4 wheel alignment, actually looking forwards to driving it again as it's been off the road since Monday.

Doing a bit of a refurb on my brakes at the moment so gone back to the standard 1.4S calipers.

Got my GTi calipers and G60 carriers off for a strip down, repaint and a regrease of the sliders and new seals on the pistons.
Once that's all done, I'll be getting hold of some braided brake lines before refitting the whole lot in 1 hit
