Hi all. Hope you're all rad. I'm looking for some guidance with my 1983 1043cc breadvan. I recently fitted an uprated headlight loom and osram nightbreakers. I'm pretty happy with the set up. I've been flashed a few times by other drivers, i'm assuming because of the new lights i have. I know they aren't on full beam as i tend to flash them back and it is a noticeable difference. When i fitted the bulbs, there seemed to be only one way to put them in, due to the shape of the actual bulb. Is this the case or can i "aim" them? I have no intention of changing the bulbs back again, i've had to deal with angel eyes in my rear view and i know my current set up isn't harsher than that. You may need to have the beam alignment checked at an MOT place. 

 

Which bulb type have you got?

I'd just nip along to an MOT centre and ask if they can check the beam alignment. Will take the guy 2 minutes with a screw driver to adjust and probably won't cost you much more than a beer.

As above, the aim is far more important then brighter lights as that makes a bigger difference. 

I currrently have 80/100w bulbs with a home made relayed harness (immo far better then any I have bought) and the output is nothing less then amazing, low beam is fantastic and on the rare occasion that I use the main beam it literally turns night into day. 

That said, I have only ever been flashed once and that was me going up hill and the other guy coming down so not really avoidable. I have had the beams set properly with a beam tester. 

 

Also, well worth mentioning if your going to the trouble of making the lights better you may as well take the lights out and wash the insides, I have used washing up liquid and some warm water and shook the bowl with my hand over the opening then rinsed it out thoroughly. Even new lights seem to have a kind of oil or grease inside that seriously effects the output.

Thanks dudes. I'll get on that this week. Lenses could do with a wash actually. Think i read somewhere that toothpaste is good for that too. More so for the outside. As i understand it, the inside is quite fragile. 

Toothpaste is more a trick for the modern plastic lenses that turn yellow. Since you're are glass I'd use just a normal glass cleaner and polish myself.

Don't use ANYTHING on the reflector itself, or you will destroy it.
