2 x Breadvans (like buses!!)

Featured Replies

Been meaning to add a post for my breadvan project having bought a 1.3 bready towards the beginning of the year but I havent got round to it till now..... And things have really changed in the mean time.

After lots of searching a bought a 1.3 5 speed bready which frankly looked like someone had been living in it for sometime. Not the cleanest polo youve ever seen. I picked it up from Kettering area and drove it back to Blackpool. The trip certainly threw up some pluses ans minuses to her. Plus.... She drives superb and pulls like a train for a bog standard abused 1.3...... Minuses were the broken drives seat, the smell! The lack of working electrics (no wipers front or rear and one working headlight sure made it a fun drive home....) no heater (cold drive home too!).... On getting her home a full strip down of interior and throw away when it came to the seats and a fresh interior sourced from on here fitted after literally two days cleaning! Another day spent getting some electrics to work and swearing at the heater that will only work intermitently. After sorting the pressing things I started running her with the idea of a rolling restoration, this came to a shuddering halt when I started proding the bit of bubbling on the sills..... Put simply she rotten..... well both sills and the back arches are floor plan and everything is remarkably clean. So I set about finding new arches and sills. All of which Ive found baring a drivers side rear arch (help!) And she is in the middle of being chopped up and made whole again.

Polo number 2 made an appearence after seeing her in Sainsburys carpark and talking to her owner and doing the Ive got a polo just like that..... Is yours for sale by any chance?...... Two months later I get a phone call from the owners son saying she wants to sell and Ive first dibs. A quick look round again and Ive two polos, this one a really clean, 1.05 country (stencilled windows and all). So plans have changed, the country is now my daily driver and the 1.3 is about going to become my new road rally car....

Anyway Im sure thats enough to bore you all to tears to start so Ill add more later on

Steve

Just a quick update. The country decided to shed its exhaust. Well I'd intended to upgrade the exhaust anyway so this sped up plans, I'd posted on here about getting an Ashley exhaust and thanks to some good advice I bailed on that idea and instead was going to get a custom stainless job..... However after being quoted £300 for a single box system I looked on ebay and found a stailess system off a facelift gt and hopefully that will arrive tomorrow and the joys of fitting that will be on Thursday. While I was on ebay I also managed to finally find the drivers side back arch so thats winging its way to me so I can fit that to the 1.3 cl meaning I'll have a complete 1300 again :) Pics to follow when alls fitted
