Hi folks, got a smell of fuel developing in the boot, with no signs of any obvious leaks underneath the fuel tank, I replaced the fuel filter to combat it, to no effect, the smell still persists, it develops over time, the longer I drive the stronger it gets.

 

My second port of call was the EVAP solenoid up front, have checked this it is working fine and the hose is pulling good vacuum.

 

I saw something about the fuel pump "overworking" could this be a possiblity or is it just speculation?

Have you checked the vent lines up by the filler neck ?

 

 

Never heard of a fuel pump "overworking" ???  they just run continuously with the excess fuel returning to the tank

 

You can rule out a corroded tank/filler pipe as it's all plastic

As best I can see theres nothing too obvious, havent been able to look at the top where all the magical bits are, surely I would get a constant smell if they were the problem?

No When the fuel has been circulating ie engine running, it would cause more vapours as the returning fuel splashes back into the tank ??

I'll have a dig and see what I can find :)
