I'm after some advice here guys. Ive got a mk2 derby as per profile pic (strip and rebuild pics to follow as i keep promising)

Anyway on to the point in hand. I am having a new windscreen fitted next week, i have 3 options. Clear, green/blue tint or top tint. The car is alpine white and from what i can tell from the only pic i have when i got the car (profile pic) is that it has a clear screen. All the other windows are tinted. What would you recommend for a replacement? Do any of you have a tinted windscreen? Whats it like? Will a tint look shit on a white car? Etc etc. please feel free to chip in your tuppence worth. 

Also my window fitter cannot get me a new seal with a groove for chrome trim. The car originally had chrome trim and ive got 2 rolls of it waiting to go on. The old seal is probably saveable with a bit of work but if anyone can advise me on where to get a new one at a reasonable price i'd appreciate it.

I restored my mk2 derby a couple of years ago when I was still living in Germany. At the time I purchased a brand new windshield w/ blue tint on top and w/ the windshield seal. It cost me about 95 Euros. Yes, it's aftermarket, but the fitment was superb. No leaks, no nothing.

 

Wouldn't bother trying to salvage an old seal, it will just leak and be a PITA to fit. The part number you are looking for from what I can tell is 867845121A. No luck at VW CP either, I'm afriad. Chrome trim? On a MK2? This is news to me, but every day is a school day. No wonder it's hard to find, I've been absorbing any tidbits of info on mk2 derbys for the last 6 years and I did not know that was an option.

 

As for the tint on the window, I wouldn't want it any other way. It makes driving so much better here in California (lots of sun :) ) especially after about 4-5 PM. I catch myself not using the sun visors every now and again because the tint takes care of it, even if the light is directly on it. 

 

Far as the looks are concerned, that I cannot really comment on. The aforementioned tint is blue and so is the car, so it looks pretty good. I can upload some pictures if you want, don't think I have any that showcase the window tint per se...but I can take some.
