I've broken it!

Featured Replies

Hi,

I tried to replace the bulbs in my mk2 speedo. I did this by pulliing the old bulbs from the plastic bases and replacing them with two new 286 bulbs.

I f***** up. One of the bulbs was a dead short and melted the track feeding the lights. The lights are now wired indepandantly of the clocks and work as they should.

However - the inidcators don't work now. Hazards are fine.

The indicator warning lamp in the clocks glows softly the whole time the ignition is on.

The indicator warning lamp in the clocks flashes correctly with the hazards.

The indicator warning lamp in the clocks lights solid when I operate the iindicator switch but the (front and rear) indicator lights dont come on.

As the dash light comes on solid when the indicator switch is in left or right position - it seems the switch is ok.

The parking lights only work in the left indicator position.

So what bit have I fried? is there logic to control parking lights/indicators in the clocks?

Only vehicle at the moment and need to bodge/sort it quickly.

Also managed to snap the (clock end) of the speedo cable - so looking for a source for that aswell (alhough taped on and working).

Anyone have a set of clocks (with the huge 12hour clock on the right) cheaply?

So put me our of mhy misery - which peice have I smoked?

Thanks in advance

Dash indicator comes on solid with switch in left or right position and dash indicator just glows in middle position.

Based on the above, it seems the switch works OK.

Bodgy time – going to lose the parking lights on indicator option and just wire one side of the indicator relay to positive through the left/right switch and the outputs of the switch directly to the indicators.

Will be interesting to see if the hazard switch and dash nag still works- if not, I’ll rectify those later.

The indicators will stay running when the key is out (rather than side lights)

Not the best solution but I really can’t be arsed to work out which bit I fried.

resolved - rotten white/yellow wire near flasher relay. Looks unrelated to my clock light bodging
