Hey everyone. 

New to the forum and having a few problems with my polo. Had a search first but couldn't find anything that was similar.

 

Basically i have central locking with the key but it is not working from the outside of the car. When inside and i push the lock button the central locking will work and lock the doors, however the passenger side will unlock straight after around 80% of the time. I have taken out the fuse, cleaned connections and replaced but everything looks ok there. Just wondering if this is a common fault or has anyone experienced this before?

 

Also when starting the car car it will crank over on my first attempt but not fire. Then when i turn the key back and try again it fires straight away. Don't know if this is in any way linked to my first problem but any help would be great. Thanks.

The only time that I have experienced the sort of problem that you describe with your N/S door, it turned out to be that the door lock was not engaging the striker plate (on the door pillar) properly.

With the door OPEN, push the lock (the part that engages the striker) over to the 'locked' position manually.

If the door no longer tries to unlock itself, that is the problem, so you MAY need to adjust the striker, but before you do that (1) Make sure that there is no obstruction preventing the door from closing. (2) With a felt-tipped pen, mark the pillar all the way round the striker - that way, you know where the original position is and you can always return to it if an adjustment does not improve the situation.

 

It is very doubtful that the above problem is linked to the failing to start fault.  Is the car anything like due for a FULL service? If so, that may sort out the problem.

If not, I would suggest that you get the fault codes read rather than spend money on something that may or may not cure the problem.

A weak battery or poor connections could also be causing this sort of problem.
