alright boys, just trying to work out in my head what's going with my polo (mk2f) 

its pritty low, and I was cruising to a meet a while back and hit a hole or dip in the m25, something when bang and the drive shaft weight started hitting the bell housing because the drive shaft Had actually came out about 15-20mm (yes the weight is that close) because of the angle of the shafts being so low but, when I stopped I noticed the drive shaft actually moves side to side as in, in and out the gear box, no up and down movement at all, this is drivers side with this problem,

passengers side doesn't slide at all, and the weird bit is it actually drove home sweet?

im thinking inner cv given up maybe, or something holding the gearbox flange in has given up?

and ideas i would be grateful and can some one go grab there drive shafts and try move them in and out of the box? Lol 

 

With everything in place there should be no in-out movement in the shaft. The reason the CVs can move is to allow for steering and suspension movements but the shaft itself should be held firm. I would say the outer CV has had it. These can be bought new from a lot of motor factors and are easy to replace so shouldn't be a big issue for you.

As the the weight on the driveshaft these are usually in the middle of the shaft so shouldn't be able to touch the gearbox.
