I'm trying to work out whether the VW2 calipers from 1980ish to 2003ish share the same disks and pads?

 

The reason is, my wife has a 2003 Lupo (same as a 9n brake wise?) and it needs disks and pads. I have a set of Brembo disks and Ferodo DS2500 pads that I used on my coupe when I upgraded to VW2's off a mk1 golf gti.

 

ECP and GSF have multiple options for both as I was trying to match up part numbers. 

 

I know I could go try them on but it's not fun doing it outside in the dark so I'd rather only have to do it once!

 

 

From my research from the 6n onwards the discs width was reduced from 20mm to 18mm. But that is the only difference I can find. 

That being said I bought the same Brembo discs I have fitted to the van for the 6n2 and the extra 2mm in width made no difference to the fitting. 

Yeh I did see an option of 18mm which threw me off a bit, the disks aren't brand new so hopefully worn down a mm or two!

 

I was more worried about the disk offset changing for some reason.

 

Been searching for photos of pads fitted to newer cars, and they also have different shaped pads for inside/outside.

 

 

The 03 Lupo runs 239 x 18 discs on the 1.0/1.4 8v & 1.7 SDi  The 1.4 16v & 1.4TDi use 256 x 20 discs

It's a 1.4 16v Auto, but it has 13" wheels so must have 239mm? 

This is the allocations Lupo Brake Allocation.doc  I put in Auto box but it didn't change the list ??

Thanks for the info, it's pretty obviously  different pads between the two.

 

Its as basic a model as it gets so hopefully it's got VW2's.

Tried it out today, doesn't work.

 

The pad attachment is different, the new ones clip on the the piston/ carrier, the old ones go on the the carrier with those spring clips.

 

The disks were the same diameter, but had a different offset and contacted the hub/ caliper carrier.

 

Was worth a try!
