Hello

Newbie here so apologies if this has been asked before but I couldn't find it...

 

I need to replace the rear hub on a 2014 Polo which I believe is a 6R/MK5 ?? I found a service manual online that indicates a torque value of 70Nm + 30 degrees which seems very low for a hub nut? Is anybody able to confirm this for me?

First Welcome to the forum.

 

In the dealers manual, there is an overview of the disc braked rear axle, that shows the nut to be torqued to 70Nm + 30deg, but then when you go to section on removing/replacing the wheel hub with bearing, it say torque to 175Nm ? then if you look in the section on the drum braked axle it goes back to 70Nm + 30deg

175Nm sounds more like I would have expected but not sure now. Does anybody know what the Haynes manual says or even if this is stated in there? Would hate to go out and by one and find that it isn't in there..

That info was from the dealers manual, so heaven only knows what lies Mr Haynes would come up with !! if there is even a Haynes for the 6R ??

Must admit it does sound like the definitive source and had it not been for the ambiguity I'd be happier to go with that. Still there's a world of difference between 70Nm and 175Nm and it's not something I'd like to get wrong.  Will try contacting my local VW garage and see what they think. Thanks again though for your input.

Confirmed with VW that 70Nm +30 degrees is definitely correct. Thanks again for all your assistance :-)
