Polo Mk2f engine transport advice

Featured Replies

I have a mk2f engine and gearbox I am about to pick up and it's over a 300 mile round trip 6 hours drive.

Question I have does anyone know if it will fit in a fiesta van?  I have had an vw air-cooled beetle engine in there before but they are alot smaller.  Will I be pushing it to much with the weight of the engine etc..

Easily. I'd say the footprint of a polo engine is smaller than the beetle engine because it's tall and skinny rather than flat.  Payload on my old fester van was 350kg, so you should be completely fine. I'd estimate the lot to be under 100kg, depending what's still attached.

Probably telling you stuff you already know, but take an old tyre to sit it on, and some corrugated card or carpet to soak any oil up.

yeah no bother ..as said sit in a tyre then strap it down well you dont want it killing you in a accident

will you have help lifting it ? thats the worst bit , could take some spanners incase seperating the gearbox might make loading easier

Yes have done the spare wheel job before. It comes with gear box and all pipes air filter loom ecu etc.

Strapping it down I never thought of that so that's a must. The seller has an engine lift so that end should not be to bad etc. My end I have no engine lift and no one to help me get it out lol..

unless youre built like Hercules you wont lift it out on your own , deffo split it up before loading in my opinion

gearbox can be lifted alone...and i can just lift an engine onto something stacked up to the correct level, but idealy you need help with it

No not at all have weak back to.. I will split the block from the gear box. I will need to buy an engine lift anyhow so advice if you have one please ? quite a few on the bay but not sure on the one I should buy ?

well even the cheapest ones are more than man enough for a polo engine , so id go cheapest i can find really , not like you will be using all day every day
