Hi All

I've just taken the plunge into Polo ownership, and picked up a local 6n2 GTi Anniversary Edition with close to 100k on it. 

Couple of things: I've been told this is a 1/24 edition, which the cynic in me doesn't believe. How do I go about verifying this?

I've also noticed that the offside front wheel rubs on the mud flap on full opposite lock. Just a case of reseating the flap, or potentially a problem sign?

I've done a bit of reading up on this model, and it seems that gearboxes are occasionally an issue - mine appears fine (no noise), but I'll probably do a rebuild on it at some point next year. Anything else I should look out for?

Welcome to the forum, and best of luck with the new wheels! You should stick up a few pictures of the car. Are you planning on modifying it in any way, shape or form?

 

I don't own a Gti myself but besides the gearbox, I haven't heard much else to watch out for. I'm sure there's a thread on here somewhere about what to look out for though.

I'll post some pictures up this evening once I'm back near a computer! Nothing major planned - it needs some new wheels, was thinking air intake and lowering it about 50/60mm.

 

well, that was the plan. The plan now is to find out why it's squeaking when t breaks, see if they're supposed to have covers underneath the engine (I can see belts), sort the bogging problem and find out why it stalled out at 3500 rpm on the motorway. Rather scary!

Not the best of photos (apologies! Didn't have anything other than a phone), but gives a nice overview of how it looks at the moment. 

It does look like it's half scared of the ground though. No BBS alloys as this is the Anniversary edition, and I don't think they came with it. Bit of a mismatch on the rear bumper, and it's been kerbed a few times in it's life.

Bad points - the clutch started slipping after 100ish miles, not a great sign. The offside wheel hits the inside plastic at full lock, and there's no engine pan (I can see belts underneath - although, is this normal for a Polo?). 

It ticked over to 100000 miles today, handles pretty well, although the brakes are woefully ineffective. 

Overall plans are to make a street sleeper eventually - subtle lowering, larger, more effective discs - I live pretty near to EBC, so I'll talk to those guys in a few weeks, was thinking along the lines of putting an LSD in the back of it (where the spare sits) or using a subaru AWD unit. Engine wise - stock for now, but I want to see if I can shoehore a small block in the long run, but that's probably 2/3 years down the line. (transverse mounted small block could work, although would require some creative engine mounts. Long term! - Dimensions wise, it will just about (mayyybbeee) fit)
 

Looks awesome!  looks like the car has landed a great home!

Oh and if you go onto Wolfsburg museum site, you could order a birth certificate for 50 Euros that would tell you exactly what model you have.
