X Reg 6n2 - random power loss; all the warning lights!

Featured Replies

A rather annoying problem has turned up - and it's only an occasional one, but very dangerous when it happens.

I'll be driving along, 60ish - about the 3k RPM mark, and suddenly, the engine will cough, all of the warning lights will come on for about .2 of a second, and all of my power goes. If I'm accelerating, it means that I can't complete the maneuver.

Plugged it into a VAGCOM reader, there are no fault codes.

Any clues?

It sounds to me as if you have an intermittent electrical problem - possibly 'just' a bad connection - the problem of course, is locating it, this sort of fault is easier to find if it is constant rather than intermittent. A fault like this may well not throw up a fault code.

I would start with the fuses on the ignition/fuel side, next in line might be the ignition switch itself, but in honesty, it is a case of keep disconnecting things and checking for good connections - one at a time, of course, or you will never know what you did to cure the problem.
