Recently my alternator has given up.    1.05L 1989. 

I think it has been too stressed, trying to provide the battery power (which is now running my boot mounted amplifier and speaker set up)

 

Instead of getting a reconditioned replacement (same spec), wondered if anyone knows a bolt on alternator that will handle a higher load?

What's the 'setup'?

Seen some major installs over the years running standard alternator, although some had slit charge systems and or power caps.

Basic as you like really. Just an aftermarket Kenwood head unit powering a pair of 4" parcel shelf speakers through original wiring. Then RCA phono cables from head unit to the boot mounted sub enclosure [1200w active vibe blackair 10"]

90amp golf /passat one is almost a direct swap

Ah yes perfect, I was looking at some online and now i've got some part numbers to guide me, cheers.

I haven't yet seen what the wiring situation is like.. when you mention upgrading to 4 gauge, is this just for the length of wire up to the battery or do I need to look at upgrading other areas of the loom too?

i upgraded the wire to ensure its not a weak part of the chain

 

in my mind it doesnt hurt one bit to upgrade the alt wire and all earths , plus the battery cables
