I was looking at what looks like a plastic cover clipper into my inner front wing just behind the headlight and was thinking that may be a cool air inlet for my turbo. I'm not sure what space is available under this cover and whether it is an option to have an air filter in there as well as air entry into that space which I assume is under the plastic wheel well cover. For those who know please comment about this option because it looks as though it's a better place to get cooler air rather than from within the engine bay? Obviously I don't want it to be a place where I'm going to pick up water from the driver's side wheel.

yeah its a fairly common thing to do , only issue is if you plan to drive through floods 

Thanks. Does that plastic cover just pop out? Is there a way to avoid most of the water? 

yeah should pop out...its where later cars had the charcoal canister

 

not much you can do if you have a filter there and meet a deep flood , i supose a summer /winter mode with the filter moved into the bay for the rougher weather would help your chances , or the ability to jump out and disconect that section if faced with deep water
