Mk2 bready 1.0 to 1.3GT

Featured Replies

I have just finished a GT throttle body that I have ported, de-wedged and slimmed down the throttle spindles if you are interested?

Looking at my brother's GT there are a couple issues with the standard air intake. The entry to the air flow sensor from the air box is pretty dire, the plastic air box lid overlaps the opening and the edges are sharp and not conducive to air flow. I would suggest opening up the mouth and making a nice radiused trumpet shape.

With the standard air box the air filter fills up the entire bottom half not allowing the incoming air to flow through the majority of the filter. The intake to the air box is small and convoluted.  I would suggest drilling some large holes in the bottom of the air box and making up a foam panel filter to put in place of the standard filter.

Whilst head is off you could consider headwork?

Butchered GT looms annoy me, for a simple plug and play conversion people love to make life hard for themselves.  The best thing to do is connect what you have then try and figure out what you ar

if you want to up the power i have a g40 inlet and injectors, add that to a 270 cam and you can get close to 100bhp   get it running nice first, if a stage 2 sub frame comes up grab it

Sounds good, but I need to know that it is running before tuning it, as head work goes I've had stem seals done, valve guides and polish an ported, as it won't be coming off

Wiring fuel pump?? I know it's easy but it's even easier if someone has done it before, anyone got adivce on where to get a live from?

Again the easiest way and the way I did it was to take the wiring from a mk2f. Any will do even a 1.0 as the wiring is all the same. It's only 3 wires. Two of them plug in behind the fuse box and one needs cut and spliced into your dash loom for the fuel gauge.

As for the ARB question I saw earlier. Since your car is a late mk2 there is a good chance it already has a 5 speed ARB.

Going to check my tank tomorrow, it says these tanks are for 85-92, but I think there is an injection model and a carb model of the tank

Back on the subject of fuel, I'm going to get a fuel tank, but do I need a sender unit if I'm using an external pump?? Or is it simply for fuel gauge?

Edited by aaronvw

it should have a lift pump built into the sender unit that then supplys the external pump

So there's no way in just having the external pump on its own, just people have done conversions on nova's an such and just had an external pump

dont doubt its been done , vw saw fit to do it that way so imo fit it all as they did and you wont have issues

It's probably is best, but I'm going to have a go, if it fails then it'll have to be altered, people convert modern cars to an external pump

The only thing I could think of why people do fit them is because it probably primes the pump, but I'm sure it would start

This cheeky number got delivered early this week, since the ex owner of the engine chopped old manifold why not upgrade it ??

Nice exhaust, good length on the secondaries, should be good for torque as well as freer flowing

check the power / size list when getting a full exhaust, around 100bhp is possible but go to large with the  exhasust and you'll looses some of rhe benefit

i put a g40 jetex on mine 2" i think and its just a shade to big for the optimal low - mid range power

This one doesn't have that big of a diameter looks standard size, it's supposed to be good for low end power
