Well, after one problem comes another..

 

Got my Polo 6N2 -00 up and running after 6 months of trial and error.. The Cathalytic converter was clogged. Not the first thing one checks.. :)

 

Anyway, went over to the MOT, got a remark that the exhaust was leaking just a bit (where i changed the converter)

Used the car for almost a month, before I got around to fixing the exhaust.

Was planning on doing some welding, but solved it antother way.

However, I removed the battery clamps anyway.

 

After the exhaust was fixed, and the clamps was back on, it was time to start it up.. I thought..

 

DIdnt really wanna start, was chewing on the starter for about 20-30 seconds before it actually started,, 

When it did, the oil lamp was flashing, and no reaction from the tacho.

Checked oil and oil preassure, and all was good, so drove it from the garage to a friend of mine..

Started it again outside his house, and all was working fine agin..??

Had a coffee, started it again, and the same crap was back again..

 

Been going on like that for a couple of days now. Some starts it´s ok, and some starts ends up with no tacho and flashing oil lamp, and an errorcode in the ECU..

The error code i get is the Engine Speed Sensor.

It always starts sooner or later, but its pretty annoying to have it like this.. :/

From what I´ve been able to find it seems like the fuel pump relay gets signal from the speed sensor, and when there is no signal, the fuel pump doesn´t wanna run. (explains the problem with starting it)

Also, some people indicate that it could be a ground fault.

 

Question is, what ground where?

I went around the engine bay, but couldn´t find any ground cable between engine and chassie. Aren´t there supposed to be one? Or is it grounded another way?

Any other ideas or thoughts?

 

Going trough the schematics in ElsaWin, it seems like there are 2 ground points in relation to the speed sensor:

 

Point 12, Left side in engine bay

Point 281, Somewhere? It just says chassieconnection in the cable loom ..

 

Anybody that knows?

Ok, removed and cleaned the ground cable going from - on the battery, to the fender, to the gearbox.. After a good cleaning and some TLC, problem seems to be gone...

Which it wasnt... Came back after a couple of flawless starts..

 

Anybody got any ideas?

Have you solved the problem? I took off the gearbox and put it again, now i have the same problem. I already bought another Engine Speed Sensor but the fault still the same. I was thinking to check the ground connections too although I was wondering if you have an answer for that. The fault no rev counter and oil light blinking from 5 to 8 times.
