Hi ive recently bought some coilovers for my 6n but need some new tyres for my alloys. The wheels are bbs solitude 15x6j and ive been looking on tyre stretch website and google images . What I need to know is what size tyres would you recommend for my wheels. 185/45/15 ? 165/45/15? Or 165/50/15?  Would you think 165/45/15 is too ott ?  Im looking for a lowish profile as I want the tyres under the arches tucked with no gap at all. Thanks nimal

If you want to avoid any speedo error then an ideal size would be something like a 185/50/15 which probably would have been the standard size for the Solitude alloys when new.

However if you are going for lows and looks a 175/50 might be a better choice.

This is one of my old 16v Polos with 15" wheels (same specs as Solitudes) on a 175/50/15 lowered on coilovers.

I later swapped to a 165/50/15 in order to get a bit more lows and found them to be a bit narrow for a 6n. 

 

Thats a lovely 6n and exactly how I want mine to be sitting. Its either 165/45/15 or 165/50/15. You think I can get away running 165/45? As its a bit lower profile?. Nimal

I'd say out of those two go for a 165/50. A 165/45 will be lower profile but you're reducing the rolling radius a lot over standard. So your speedo will be over reading by a long way. 

Standard VW sizes are 195/45/15, 185/55/14, 175/65/13

 

to maintain speedo accuracy you want to aim for around 560mm total diameter

 

165/50 will overead 2%

165/45 will overead 5%

Thanks . I decided im going to get 165/50/15 tyres in a few weeks time then install the coilovers after, im not going for stupid low or sump scrapping etc. Looking at other threads on google 195/45/15 looks okish too
