Alex Grant's Pearl Grey Mk3 G40

Featured Replies

So, I have to ask, will this be at Inters?

Looks really fresh, definitely puts my Golf to shame on the paintwork front, really does look mint now! Bet you're rather chuffed, definitely paid off with the trophy win as well

  • Well, I think I've reached the point where it's done. Easy to drive, fast, fairly comfortable. It works well, and I'm tempted to leave it as it is. This position has taken me 15 years and four month

  • Took it to C&M last night for the StrassenKultur evening and… well this was awesome.

  • Soooooo... new stuff. Bought these, haven't got around to fitting them yet. Or, do I go back to the half-tinted and clear lenses? Not sure. I've also discovered the answer to a question I didn't w

I'll be at Inters tomorrow. :)

Spent a bit of time cleaning the bay earlier. Looks alright, but it's still a bit behind the rest of the car.

looks stunning Alex, well worth all your hard work.

What glue did you use for the acoustic carpet dude?

  • Author

A can of extra strong spray mount, I got it from the motorfactor where I bought the carpet.

Hmm. Just realised I haven't updated this in a while.

DC kicked off three weeks solid of shows - I went to GTI International a week later, and the interior got so hot that my glasses steamed up when I reached inside to grab some water.

Then the following week I had booked to go to BVF, but got invited to go to Goodwood Festival of Speed with Ford on the Friday so I went down in the Polo. We stopped off in Hook, Hants overnight to drive a few cars from Ford's heritage fleet, which was epic. Drove the last Capri ever made - a 280 Brooklands - which was a thug. I also got a chance to try a 1912 Model T.

Got up early the next day for a blast down some country lanes to Goodwood. The road to get in was a bit dusty to say the least!

Finished up at Goodwood at about 5.45, drove up to Hook to drop my mate off at his car and check my e-mails in the hotel internet lounge, then hot-footed it up to Malvern with a quick Subway stop en route. Pitched my tent at about half ten.

Epic weekend, 437 miles travelled without any issues and it's driving brilliantly. :)

Didn't do a great job of waxing it at BVF mind, there are a few thick patches of wax on the roof. One to sort out pre Polo Show!

awesome. 8-)

Had the car on the Acclr8 stand at Ultimate Street Car this weekend:

You must be well chuffed with the result. Looks great. 8-)

You bet! :)

Mint. Well done mate. :)

looking tidy! you will never get the bay amazingly clean without getting a 4 branch! the standard cast item just doesnt come up well at all. youve got some tidying to do if your going to make the bay look as good as the outside!!!

good work

You're not wrong! I'm desperate to get myself a four branch but I can't see myself ever bringing the engine bay up to the rest of the bodywork. I think I'll get the wheels redone over the winter, probably in chrome with the centres colour coded, and sort some centre caps.

TBH though, I'm going to go back to using it in anger next year. I want to do a few sprint sessions and track days in it really. :)

its to good a paint job to track it surely!!!

i still have my old psd 4 branch. I'm in 2 minds whether to sell it or keep it as its an original psd so it dont foul the charger making it look more standard. - its one of those things i might just hoard lol.

chrome rims! now that would be pimp and go completely against track days hahaha i think you will need to get some track wheels for that!

Just the lips - should be reet I reckon, I don't plan on turning it into a track car, just putting the performance-related bits through their paces a bit. :)

Unfortunately it's one of those where I'll probably end up with stone chips and so on anyway, might as well enjoy it. I've done a few bits in the past and loved how it performs, quite keen to get it out again but it'll need a service and charger rebuild first I think.

I'd originally planned to hit Action (camping Friday and Saturday) and Edition this weekend, but work plans (albeit a trip to Korea, which is very cool) scuppered that. Popped into Edition yesterday though, and got snapped by Si Gray, shooting for Acclr8. Love these :)

I'm getting married in three weeks, and with work commitments this is the end of the show season for me. Time for a major service, charger rebuild and some winter tweaks to start :)

i hope part of your upgrade plan involves a 4 branch in that bay at least!

  • Author

Yeah, if money allows. That and a subframe.

Well done mate great thread, One question are they the original fogs?

This has Gaz coilies doesn't it Alex?

Yeah they're genuine fogs. Not fitted to this as standard though.

Yep :-)

No update on mine... but I have two Polos on the drive at the moment. The least efficient one ever made... and the most efficient one ever made:

I like it. Looks cool, great to drive, feels really well made and it's got loads of room inside. Not as much fun as the G40 of course...

Yeah, if money allows. That and a subframe.

I've got a 4 branch and a lovely pearl grey cam cover for sale as it goes...... :ninja:

Car looks awesome mate.

So I've seen. There seem to be loads for sale at the moment but I'm getting married and going on honeymoon next weekend - car stuff is on hold at the moment at least until I know where I am money wise. It needs a major service and charger rebuild before I add anything, so I reckon it'll be the new year before I'm in the market for any tuning parts.

By which point I'm predicting there will be precisely nothing available! :(

Congrats on getting married Bro

Always the case, loads around when your skint, then you get money and all of a sudden there's none :(
