They're still on the car at the moment - and my new wheels are near Portsmouth. But if I find a buyer by the weekend I can soon rectify that. Collecting the new wheels on Friday - they're silver. ;)

  • Well, I think I've reached the point where it's done. Easy to drive, fast, fairly comfortable. It works well, and I'm tempted to leave it as it is. This position has taken me 15 years and four month

  • Took it to C&M last night for the StrassenKultur evening and… well this was awesome.

  • Soooooo... new stuff. Bought these, haven't got around to fitting them yet. Or, do I go back to the half-tinted and clear lenses? Not sure. I've also discovered the answer to a question I didn't w

I figured these would be fairly obvious:

Made a slight detour on my commute home from St Albans to Kettering - um, to Hayling Island.

Hope these ones fit! On my way back home now via a caffeine stop.

I sense it might be time to find another Nova model on the cheap.

Wheel scavenging is going to happen!

bit jealous! i had a set of gmds nova revo rfx wheels, but had to sell them due to lack of space, sold them for £100. granted they weren't in as nice condition as yours, still wish i had kept them as they look great on polos

Busy day!

Decided I wanted to get these fitted ASAP so I'd have the Watanabes ready to sell. So loaded up and set off for Eastcote Customs.

Got there and did a quick test fit just to make sure they clear the brakes and aren't a daft offset. Check, and check. Turns out they're also hubcentric which makes my life easier.

Then I put the car on axle stands, loaded up both sets of wheels and headed to Wheelmania to get the tyres swapped into the Revos. Thank god for practical long-termers!

It's filthy and sandwiched into the corner of the workshop but I think it looks great on these!

Meanwhile my 508 got snowed on. And FINALLY my Michelin Alpin winter tyres got some use!

So. Productive week.

In the cafuffle of getting the wheels up for sale and so on, I did forget to pose a question to the detail-loving Mk3 owners on here.

My driver's side door handle has snapped.

pieceofshithandle.jpg

The bit that's broken off is the piece that screws onto the inside of the door shut. A bit annoying as it's the second time this has happened to me.

Now it's not a genuine part, but I'm weighing up whether or not to invest in the real deal. This one lasted five years which is pretty poor, the last one thinking on it, was exactly the same (02-07) before it broke off.

Non-genuine door handles are dirt cheap on fleabay and I've heard bad things about the OE stuff breaking as well. Should I bite the bullet and buy VAG or pay less and accept it probably won't last? The only real annoyance other than it chipping into my beer money is the faff of swapping the Golf flipper for the Polo one. Fiddly and I always catch my fingers in the bloody pliers. :(

Anyone had this happen to a genuine handle?

In other news, I've had some eBay success and bought what appear to be Revolution centre caps in the right size. The seller probably had me down as a time-waster, asking loads of random measurements, but they weren't cheap so I wanted to make sure they'd fit. I've bought cone-shaped ones with the twin Revolution flags. Ummed and ahhed about Schmidt ones, then decided against it.

Also... Pete's sent me some pictures of my freshly refurbished (but as yet unpainted) G40 charger. Happy times!

And, last but not least, look what's joined the staff projects in PVW starting this month:

There's a full double-pager about the project in this month's issue - but you'll have to pick up a copy if you want to read ;)

Very flattered to have been asked! :)

happend on my mk2, for a quick fix i drilled a small hole through the plastic and the metal part, tapped the metal bit and then used a small screw to hold it back together. still going strong nearly a year later!
