  • Well, I think I've reached the point where it's done. Easy to drive, fast, fairly comfortable. It works well, and I'm tempted to leave it as it is. This position has taken me 15 years and four month

  • Took it to C&M last night for the StrassenKultur evening and… well this was awesome.

  • Soooooo... new stuff. Bought these, haven't got around to fitting them yet. Or, do I go back to the half-tinted and clear lenses? Not sure. I've also discovered the answer to a question I didn't w

I have not been on here for ages, but I am glad to see some of the cars are still about and only getting better.

Nice one Alex. 8-)

Just a quick update of the spec list, and a single new picture.

polo-07-06.jpg

Gave it a quick wash yesterday so took it around the corner to get some snaps before it rained (which it did, in spades, last night). Not a fantastic location or a great picture, and it was taken on my brother's camera, so the quality's not too hot unfortunately. I left mine up in Peterborough.

But since it's had no new pics uploaded since November, and it's had a few new bits since, thought it was time for an update! Green tint glass makes quite a difference, it's very subtle though.

I don't like G40's and I definitly don't like grey ones.

Love your car though! Proper Bo. I'd be interested in more pics with the glass, or better still I'll have to catch it in the flesh at a show.

Hehe, I'll do a proper photoshoot next time it's clean (that could be a while though...) but otherwise I'm hoping to actually make some shows this year!

It's such a cool addition, makes a real difference to the look of the car, but it's one you wouldn't spot unless you're looking for it!

OK, here's the best direct comparison I have...

I'd forgotten I had an old gallery thread - thought I'd update it as it's about two years and a shit load of mods behind. :)

End of an era yesterday, after nearly a decade in my hands I sold my old 15s to a mate. Shit pic I know, we fitted them in the dark last night!

Photo0024.jpg

I was kinda sad to see them go actually, still looking nearly mint and wrapped in almost box fresh but Alconbury-scorched Goodyear Eagle F1s. But I need the money, I'm never going to fit them again and I'd prefer to see them being used. :)

My mate needs to lower his car too - though it's still raked from being on the jack in this pic. The rims suit it I think, it's just weird seeing them on another car.

Got some new rims coming in the next few weeks :D

Simply stunning.

Put the car on the Max stand at Mod Nats last weekend - perks of the job :D

Shame my wheels hadn't arrived but a session of Dodo Juice did it wonders I reckon...

New rims should be here in a couple of weeks. Looks like they're not going to get here in time for DC :(

This is fast becoming my favorite G40, it's just great that you've had it for so long and it's in the condition it's in.. getting Dodo Juiced and put on show but also getting driven properly.. especially considering how many G's are being broken or not looked after..

I can guarantee if I was there I wouldn't have batted an eyelid at that 350z without spending a good 15 minutes starring at this 8-)

What are the new wheels, or is it a secret?

I like the current ones to be honest, very 90's IMO but I'm sure the new ones will do it justice :)

Thanks :)

I don't hate the Speedlines but they're in need of a proper refurb and don't do the car that many favours. I only bought them as track wheels originally (paid £30 and painted them myself) but they've ended up staying. Realistically I need to get my old spacers on the back to make them fill out the arches a bit better. But they're still scabby as fook.

It did generate a lot of interest over the weekend, but I know it would've looked sooo much better on the new rims. Lame :(

Keeping stumm about the new hoops for now, but they're being custom made to my spec and will be the first set in the UK. About time it had a decent set on it really ;)

Can't complain for £30 to be fair, they make decent spares or track wheels at least.. looking forward to new ones now though

So, it's the first day of your week off work. You're in Cardiff (not Peterborough, for once) with a G40, a full tank of fuel and a few hours to kill. What do you do?

Well, I spent today tearing up the Brecon Beacons in the G40, with my mate Martyn in his Integra Type R. We racked up 240 miles, without using any motorways. Bloody awesome!

Thought I'd share some highlights...

Stopped off for a dehydration/rehydration break and realised we were in the back end of nowhere. The roads were really rough by this point, some of them are WRC stages I think.

Then back out onto some bigger roads - smooth tarmac again and jaw dropping views.

Then we headed home - back to warm weather and sunshine. My car looks like it's been rallied - loads of sheep shit splattered all up the side.

All in all an awesome drive, and the car felt awesome! :---)

I love this car, truly awesome 8-)

The Polo had a minor service on Saturday, just an oil change before it goes into the bodyshop and a new exhaust rubber. Swung by the office on the way back and took this:

Wheels aren't here yet but they're not far off. Had some pre-production pics a week ago, shots of them unpainted, but not sure whether to let everyone know what they are yet. :) If all goes to plan it'll be in the bodyshop as of two weeks today. Genuinely going to miss having it around over the winter, but it'll look factory fresh and (more importantly) be rust free by next year which is a happy trade off.

Does mean a winter with the Passat. Big, smooth, quiet but ultimately not a car that ever raises a pulse. Starting to fancy an MX-5 project for next year, but as Caroline (fiancee) has just picked up a Z4 that'd mean having three impractical (ish) cars in the house and no barge. :D

Also amused to see my mate (who drove the car back from the garage) put this up as his FB status:

enjoyed the drive back from the unit... pity the porsche turned off though... not everyday cars in the rear view look like they are going in reverse

Haha!

major love for this! :-)

are the new rims 14" or 15" or is that classified :ninja:

Is it going to be hitting the show season hard next year?

Yeah that's the plan - don't expect anything mindblowingly different in terms of a refresh though. Different rims and REALLY glossy paint are the general crux here. I've got a couple of subtle tweaks planned though.

My problem is I actually really like how the Mk3 Coupe looks with the GT/G40 kit on it. And I love Pearl Grey. And I love the way mine's built so it's purely black, grey and silver with red accents. So I'm not in a hurry to change much, I just want it to be solid and usable.

Rims will be 14s. Custom made to fill out those rear arches. :)
