I've waited a long time to have all of this done. It's taken until now for me to be able to afford it, and even now it's largely because I got made redundant and actually had some money in my account.

It's never been a chequebook car this, but along the way I've had a few ways of keeping costs down which has helped me build up the spec. Not much left on my "want" list now.

something 'interesting' that I found whilst nicking stuff from Max's G40 Turbo and this photo reminded me of it.... is that Mk3 sill covers don't actually cover all of the sill unlike the mk2 ones. :-D

Yeah, MK2 ones cover the lot and MK3 are a small strip.

Both got there pros and cons, MK2 ones hide rust/cause rust but look better, MK3 ones dont cover it all but less chance of rust.

Yeah, I'd never noticed before because I didn't really bother cleaning the sills. But I probably will now. :)

Toyo Proxes T1-R - 195/45 R14

It's the same as I had before. I was going to get Uniroyals, but they're not easy to get hold of. Not many decent tyres in that size.

But yes the wheels were a pleasant surprise for me too. I knew they'd look good, but I think they look better than I was expecting.

It's been a while - but I've finally had a chance to get back up and work on the car today.

With a free weekend, the last before it's due to be unveiled at DC11, I wasn't messing about. Today needed to be really productive, and it has been!

First step was refitting the rear bumper, a small job but one I couldn't do with the trim off. I also had a new beesting aerial waiting, so that went on too, and the headlining was clipped back in place. You'll also see my Polo Performance Parts strut brace, which is wedged in place here.

Door cards were next on the list - complete with the seat belt holders. Yes, I've got a lot of cleaning to do!

Then, off with the wheels so I could drop the rear beam and get that strut brace bolted in. Adam did the drilling - I hate putting holes through my car!

And before I left, I managed to get the rear quarter windows in, too.

Left to do: windscreen, headlights/grille, rear number plate and sunroof.

Should be coming home tomorrow, barring any unforseen mechanical complications. :)

Thanks :) but I may be a bit of a disappointment on the photography front.

It's a tricky one, I'll be posting a pic of it once it's out of the shop but tbh I'd rather wait until it's home, clean, waxed and with all the trim revived. I don't want to give too much away until it's at its best, otherwise I'm sort of spoiling the overall effect.

Trust me, it's got a real presence now and the paint finish has to be seen. But the first proper pics will be on here after DC11 I reckon, I doubt I'll have it properly clean until then.

What I'm saying is, I don't want to post mediocre pictures on here. I'd rather people saw it when it's ready :)

Trust me, they looks sweet in real life. It's not easy to get a full pic when it's in the bodyshop. Near no room in there.

But the big news today is, it's back on my drive!

Had a frantic afternoon finishing the last bits of the rebuild. The sunroof went back in without too many dramas, though it took a while to get it sitting right, and after topping up the charge on the battery the car purred back into life.

It needs a new battery and we didn't get time to clean the interior properly but otherwise it's looking really bloody good. I'm going to spend this week tying up those last loose ends.

Felt good opening the door this morning to see this:

I've made a start on the finishing touches too - ordered the last four wheel bolts, a few bolts that were rusty and needed replacing and the bits of windscreen wiper I'm missing. I seem to have mislaid them while I was dismantling the car.

Gave it a quick clean earlier to wash the dust off, hoping to get some wax on there tomorrow, then I'll redo it next week and put some trim detailer on to bring the plastics back to life. Then I'll take some decent pics for you to check out :)

Haha such a tease! Excuse me for sounding rather gay there, seriously though dude its beautiful but I would have to agree on the wheel front.

The speedlines just suit mk3's so well.

See this is why I'm not posting full pics of it until it's show ready. I can't really do it justice in a quick snap. The new wheels fill the arches really well, they really suit it. Those who have seen it in real life or a pic of the full car say the same.

But everyone is entitled to their own opinions!

Sorry last post wasn't meant to sound mardy, wrote it just after I woke up. Just saying I need to get some proper pics, and I reckon any founders will come round.

The combination of concave spokes, dish and unstretched tyres makes it look really purposeful. I love it! :-)
