Hi guys. I recently got my first polo, 2002 (52 plate) type 9N. 

 

I've just bought some new blades from Euro Car Parts which are the bosch aerotwin, looks like a hook attachment. I've gone to change them, and I've got literally NO idea how to get these ones off. I've had 4 cars to date, all had really easy detachment and attachment. These ones, what on earth am I meant to do?! 

 

Also, is it possible to change the arms to hook arms so that I can actually put normal wipers on? I don't know if these bosch ones will fit because I don't want to open them and not be able to return them, if I can't even work out how to remove the old ones... 

 

Doesn't seem to be any button to press, clip to undo or anything to unscrew. Any help would be appreciated.

They should simply pull off? If they're like the ones you get on a golf mk4, then they're on a spindle. Pull away from the wiper arm, and you'll see the shaft :P

Cheers Dean. Do you mean the arm itself is on a spindle, down near the top of the bonnet, or are you talking about the wiper blades themselves? 

 

If so, how does one actually change the wiper if you've got the new wipers like I have which have the hook housing attachment? Thanks.

You'll need to take them back as it looks like someone has done an aero conversion on your (unless it was an option). Look for 21" and 19" mk4 golf aero wipers from halfords. They're ok usually for you to try them first to make sure they fit outside in the car park. Just get someone to go with you etc.

I want to change the hook housing one to this type with the hole for the spindle. Cheers!

Probably a breakers if you want the original arms. However your arms (aero) are a very popular mod across the vw family. I got mine for my old polo, and I got some more for my VRS. They look neater, sit a lot lower too, with giving a far better clean.

Thanks for your help. I seem to have found the actual correct fitting ones on euro car parts. Just going to go there now to see if they'll accept the old ones back (should do) and pick up the new ones. This type of fitting, according to them, is called side fitting.
