Side windows

Featured Replies

Afternoon all,

I know it might sound daft, but I'm moving a couple of bits around, and one of them is the side window buttons. Moving them from the centre onto the doors. Have managed to move them, but the standard buttons are huge and stick up quite a bit. Got some lower ones, but am now stuck on the wiring colours, anybody have any idea which colours go to which? Thanks

You will need to get a multimeter and see what colour wire does what, as the smaller switch your trying to fit isn't a VW one, the wiring to the original switch is Blue/Grey 12v lighting supply, Brown Earth, Black/Yellow & Red/Yellow go to the motor & the two Red/Black wires are the main 12v power

Thanks for that. I don't have a Multimeter, but as long as I assume the red and black from the new switch match the red and black on the original, would it cause any harm to switch the different colour wires around until it does what it should?

Unless you know what the internal contacts in the switch are doing you could potentially short the main power to ground and cause a fire !!

Ah! Better get a multimeter and figure out what to do with it then. Won't be connecting any wires until 100% sure what each wire in the switch does. Thought it would be a tad easier. That will teach me to research something first eh?
