Can anybody paste a link to what relays do what for a 6n Polo please? Been having trouble starting for a little while, and just happened to tap a few earlier, and car started straight up, but want to see if was a fluke or related to ones I tapped. Thanks

Need to know what year/month ?  easiest way is the speedo layout, what are the positions of fuel & water temp gauges ? top centre or bottom outside ?

Great thanks. That all marries up to what I have. IF Relay 167, fuel pump relay was bad, would that possibly cause a mare to start it up and have to pump the throttle for ages? Or if it was bad, it wouldn't start at all? Just got a multimeter and checking some online videos to see how to do properly, but don't see the harm in asking a man who really knows his stuff :-)

Yes if that relay is bad, the pump won't run, so no fuel pressure= no start

The relay is controlled via the ECU on it getting a good immobiliser signal, but that normally shows up as it will start & run for 2~3 seconds then stop

ok, here is what I have done after following some suggested youtube vids. I have tested the voltage to the fuel pump, it reads 11.3. Resistance at the fuel pump reads Zero. The Relay clicks as it should, and resistance on it is 0.01. The relay I would guess is good, but the fuel pump is debatable I think

 

The resistance across the pump motor with the connector removed should be a few Ohms. On the connector Pin 4 Brown wire, that should be Zero resistance to ground

I got nothing, and the voltage seems a bit low too

With the connector removed, what voltage do you get between pin 1 Red/Yellow (pos) & pin 4 Brown (neg) then compare that to the voltage across the battery
