New here, just bought a 6n, 1999, 1.4, 8v, rear drums, planning to do some work on it this weekend, was hoping someone could tell me

 

-Rear hub nut torque and tightening procedure for wheel bearing, is it like other vw's where you tighten it, then back it off a certain amount? 

-Stub axle bolt torque

 

I'm waiting for my haynes to come in the post!

As yours is a 99 there are two different rear drum setups, if it's an early 99 model then you will need to remove the big hub nut to service the brake shoes, there isn't a specified torque for the nut, you nip it up, then back it off until you can just move the washer under the nut, then install a new split pin, If it's a later 99 model, you just need to undo a small screw in the drum outer face and then after releasing the drum adjuster through the bolt hole, the drum comes away without having to release the big hub nut

Hi Nige, thanks alot, appreciate the info  its V reg so would think it will be the later type?

The change over occurred around Oct 99 but as soon as you take the wheel off, you will be able to tell if it's the later setup, as it will have a small screw on the face of the drum
