  • This is my cam locking tool   Get some cotton buds too to clear all the bolt recesses on the block of water otherwise the head bolts wont torque properly

  • Also use a razor to clean the surface of the block and head of any gasket    Idealy get the head skimmed but if the gasket hasnt blown to a massive degree you can get away with reusing it

  • Thats a comon leak but not always a leak that affects the running, be worth doing a compression test to see if your low on any cylinders. What the leak can do is coat the alt in oil and stop the charg

Cam sprocket has to come off so you can undo the cam cover from the head as well as thermo housing

Brilliant thank you.

Make sure you have the sprocket locked as without the cambelt you turn only the head and eventually the valves will hit a piston and it is possible to bend them

Without a locking tool I will have to try your method.

Is there a thread on here that deals with future cambelt and/or alternator belt changes?

If you do be carefull to get it locked without to much movement way from the timing marks, you can turn the bottom back too but you have to try match the amount

A long breaker bar and a sharp quick pull upwards can be enough to take the pressure off so you can do it with a 1/2" by hand but make sure the cams not gonna spin before you do

I think there is a cambelt thread, youll need to jack the cam side of the engine up to remove the lower pulley to fit the belt as it fouls the chasis leg. Might aswell do the waterpump if your doing the belt
