Slow wipers breadvan

Featured Replies

Hi polo people. Hope you're all well. Quick question about slow moving wipers on my mk2 breadvan. They take a second to kick in when i turn them on and they are REALLY slow on all settings. Battery is fairly new so don't think that's the issue. Not had my alternator tested but everything else seems to run okay. Could it be a dying motor or a dying relay that needs replacing?

Thanks for stopping by, and as usual, thank you for any guidance you can give. Take it easy.

Sounds like the linkage is excessively stiff

Cool. So strip down and clean? Lashings of wd40/gt85?

That would be my first option, if that doesn't fix it a new/overhaul motor

Coolio. Thank you Sir. I'll get on them in that order and see what happens. Thanks again.

Been spritzing any moving parts to do with the wipers with lashings of wd40 and gt85. Actually made a big difference already. Looks like it was just a bit stiff. Thanks dude.

It seems then as if the problem was mechanical rather than electrical, as the WD40 has freed off the linkage.

I wouldn't like to rely on it remaining free though, as WD40 isn't really long lasting in a situation like wiper linkages.

I would advise that you remove the motor and linkage, separate the motor from the linkage, and if you think that the motor is OK, put it to one side ready for reassembly.

Strip down the linkage and clean up the joints, then reassemble them with a little silicone grease.

Regards
