Took my drivers door apart to replace the window motor and the the cables were all rusty and everything in there was wet.

 

Is this a common problem with a common cure ?

 

I noticed that the window seal is not against the glass toward the front. Does this happen when the rubber shrinks ? or will the lip it's mounted on need bending in ?

 

Are there any other likely causes I've not thought of ?

 

There are 3 drain holes in the bottom of door  a mk2 that should let water out,

and a plastic or foam membrane to keep water away from interior.

 

Sorry don't have a 6N to compare. I'd expect similar design.

 

I'd expect the window to be wiped across all its width when wound down, if the rubber is fitted true.

Think there's a small strip of felt to help. My window rubbers are a bit hard but not shrunk. Perhaps the frame is bent?

dvderlm - Thanks for your response. I've just fixed it and it was a gap between the outer seal and the glass. I took the outer seal off and using a mallet and piece of wood, tapped it back in until it sealed all the way along again

With the new tight fit, I sprayed both inner and outer with some dry silicone lube to keep it all smooth.
