Can anyone help me with the following.  I stirred my polo from it's Winter slumber yesterday and it was a bit hesitant under acceleration.

I put it on my diagnostic leads and got the following codes with VWTool:

 

 

523-- -------    Intake air temp sensor (G42)
        No Signal
518-- -------    Throttle position sensor (G69)
        No Signal

 

 

 

 

I put a new throttle position sensor on it last year, so it could be the wiring?

 

What would the intake sensor do?  I have an induction kit, so does the ECU care?

Which data block is it in VWTool?  There is one reading -15, does this mean the intake temp sensor is dead?

That amf tells the ecu air density so it can put the right fuel into the mix

The best thing I ever did with my gt was to make the wiring loom up from scratch with new wire and crimps, then Re-Used the old connectors. 

It cost about £100 all in, took about a day to do and solved all my sensor faults codes. Haven’t had a problem since. 

If you can’t be bothered with this I’d guess you’ve got some dodgy earths as they weren’t faulty before. Take them all off and give them a good clean/sand

Hi Fathands.  A dodgy earth could be the cause of the TPS error as it is intermittent and the TPS is only a year old.  Could you tell me where the relevant earths are?

The inlet temperature sensor seems to be working again?

I had the car out for a run on Sunday and no fault code appeared and there was a temperature reading of +15degrees C in VWtool, which seems about right.

I'll check it's resistance with a multimeter when I get chance.

Engine bay earths are;

from the coil

one on the drivers chassis leg by the cambelt

One on the gearbox

The loom earths under the inlet manifold, there's a few, about 3-4?

 

Then there's the battery to chassis earth. General rule, if the cable is crusty (basically if it feels old) it will be rubbish. I normally paste a load of copper grease on connections once I've cleaned them up.

theres a huge crimp with loads of earths in up by the passenger turret all taped into the loom , fair chance that could be rotten....all the others join there and then go onto the 2 that run along to the battery post

 

easiest way if you dont want to rebuild the loom is replace any suspects from the connector block direct to the battery or bodywork
