Mk2f seats into a mk2.

Featured Replies

Hi all. Hope you're well and able to make the most of the weather.

Managed to score some decent seats from a later polo, (possibly 1990 saloon,) to put into my 1983 breadvan. Managed to swap over the seat belt fasteners so they would work without any issues. Turns out, the lever underneath that controls the seat sliding backwards and forwards is on the other side of the central adjustment runner. I can still adjust it, just have to get my hand underneath and pull the pin out to do it. Is this an issue on an mot and if so, am i okay to just drill holes on the opposite side and refit that way? I know i would need to fit a small section of pipe or something to fit the pin through if i did this.

If it's not an mot issue, i may just leave it though. No one else drives it. Passenger side is only issue if it will be an mot problem.

Thanks for stopping by and any guidance you're able to leave.

Some pics?

You can take the seats apart and build the new ones on to the old base

Is the slide pin mech reversable?

Will try and get some pics when i get chance later in the week. The metal mount is symmetrical but there are only holes drilled in one side. The side the pin is on has a metal tube that the pin goes into to compensate for the length of the pin and hold it straight.

Think it may be easier to drill holes and fix a piece of pipe or tubing on than make frankenseats but i will bear that in mind.

If it isn't an mot issue, i'll probably just leave it for now and see how it goes. I only have two real tall mates and they don't really travel with me much.

Dont think itll be an mot issue as in a required to pass but if the tester is alot taller or shorter than you itd irritate them a shade

Seat being solid and in a fixed position is a good thing regarding safety

The mk2f is a face lift of your mk2 so the basic shell is the same, its possible adjustments to base mount was part of the update

Yeah the driver seat has a tilt adjustment as well. That's on the side the running adjuster is. It is fixed and it is adjustable. I could maybe put some wire rope on it that would act as a pull. That would work as a quick fix. It's due in for some work in the garage i get it mot'd in at the emd of this week. Mot isn't due until next year but i can always ask them about it.
