Wheel bearing ?

Featured Replies

Hi all

For the past 2 months my polo has developed an annoying fault.  It’s making a clicking noise from the drivers side rear wheel.  I don’t think its spring or shock as it sits right and doesn’t bang.  It’s can only be described as tapping/clicking noise.

Any ideas it’s getting quite embarrassing to drive as it’s quite noticeable.

Typically a wheel bearing will make a whirling noise

Clicking could be the brake shoes, if one of the holding pins came off it could be moving about

Does the noise change with speed?

Also behind the driver wheel is the fuel pump which does make that noise....

If it’s running and stationary then no noise.  It doesn’t sound like a bearing as I had one of these go on my old coupe gt and it sounded different.  I will have to take it to local garage for them to strip down I suspect brake related as shock and springs feel okay.

thanks for your help.

It MIGHT help to diagnose it as a brake problem if the sound changes when you apply the footbrake or handbrake - If the sound doesn't change, it probably isn't brake related, but then again .....

Regards
