I bought a Polo 6N a few months ago as a project car, on my way back home I got into an accident when a moron side-swiped me and hit me directly on the drivers side of the vehicle.
In total my door is messed up and the front fender along with the steelie being bent with the entire strut.
Thankfuly I got all of the parts needed to fix it up for less than 100€.

I have bought a new strut (from the wreckers :P) with the shock absorber and the spring.

I removed the mangled wheel and proceeded to remove the first two bolts near the wheel. (English is not my first language so I apologize).
With some WD40 and a hammer I managed to knock them lose and unbolt them.
After that I went up to the engine bay and went to remove the top bolts. As I mainly owned Alfa's I thought that it was going to be 3 bolts and out it goes.

There is a central nut sitting on top of a metal plate and rubber ring around it. I tried to unbolt the screw but it's moving in place with the plate and ring with it.

What is the best method of removing it? What tools do I exactly need?

Ps The Polo in question is a 1999 Polo 6n 1.0L 50HP

idealy you would use an impact gun like the garages have, im guessing you dont have one though

 

sinse the strut is ruined you can use vice grips on the shaft between the spring coils to stop it turning then use a socket on the top nut

I managed to remove them with a combination of a sparkplug socket and alan key.
I placed the new strut and bolted it and put on the new rims.
The rim rubs on the strut. I tested it out on the passengers side and the new rim doesn't rub, so it's not a tire/rim issue.

What could be the issue?

Your English seems pretty good to me - you should see some of our own people's.  😀

 

There are three points that come to mind on this problem:

(1) Could the swivel hub (the part that the strut bolts to) be damaged?  Maybe you could take some measurements and compare them to the passenger side.

(2) Did the strut come complete with the swivel hub? - There are at least two different swivel hubs for your model.

(3) Could the lower arm (the part with the lower ball joint on it) be damaged? - Again, some measurements compared with the passenger side may help decide.

 

I hope that one of the above may be the cause of the problem, otherwise you may need to check that the chassis is not damaged in the area of the suspension mounting.

 

If the above isn't of any help, maybe you could post some photographs of the various parts.
