I purchased a helix clutch kit for the 1997 POLO 6N 16V AFH.

 

 

I've done about 3000 miles on it and I am wanting to change to a lighter flywheel.

 

The clutch and the plate seem good as new but whilst I have it off I wondered if replacing the thrustbearing is required?

 

Where could I find a LUK thrustbearing  Helix code: 40-5002.?

 

Are different brand thrustbearings compatible with uprated clutch systems?

 

 

At 3,000 miles, the clutch should be, as you say 'good as new'

 

You should be able to obtain a release bearing from wherever you purchased your clutch from. Alternately, your local VW dealer will probably have one/obtain one for you.

 

It is normal practice to change the release bearing at the same time as the clutch is renewed, indeed they are often sold as a clutch kit.

 

One thing to look out for on your model, is the sleeve over which the release bearing slides - these tend to develop a 'wear ridge' on the sliding area, this can cause problems with clutch operation, so if it is warn, changing it at the same time as the clutch makes a lot of sense.
